The !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! post on the FP reminded me of a story I wanted to post a couple of weeks ago.

A South Vietnamese pilot knowing that Saigon is about to fall to the NVA, steals a Chinook helicopter. Which he uses to pick up his family and flies out to sea looking for a US Navy ship to land on. He finally finds a ship but the landing pad is too small for the Chinook. So, he hovers over the ship while his family jumps out of the helicopter onto the ship where the US Sailors catch them. He then ditches in the ocean, somehow gets out off the helicopter before it can sink and then swims back to the ship. Pretty f’in badass.

My neighbor was on the USS Midway when a Vietnamese Air Force pilot stole an O-1 Birddog and landed it on the Midway with his family.

That’s awesome, after reading that CNN article I guess it was a pretty common thing.

Desperation and the desire to protect ones family will drive a person to do amazing things.
